Drafting Plans & Hands-On for Adobe and Compressed Earth Block

About This Event
This three-day workshop combines classroom instruction, drafting, and hands-on experience with Adobe and compressed earth block construction. Designed for owner-builders, designers, and those new to earth construction, the course covers the process from soil and block production through wall construction, passive solar design, building systems, and code considerations.
Participants work with authentic Adobe and compressed earth block materials and tools while learning practical construction techniques. The course also includes a set of working drawings for a small Adobe/CEB home and instruction intended to help participants understand how construction drawings relate to permitting and code requirements.
What You’ll Learn
Topics include soil selection and testing, Adobe and compressed earth block production, mortars, wall layout and construction, arches, rough bucks, reinforcement, electrical integration, passive solar design, floor systems, bond beams, roof systems, stabilization methods, fireplaces, energy-code considerations, and basic drafting for Adobe construction.
Hands-on activities include making Adobe and compressed earth blocks, laying block and mortar, constructing walls and arches, setting electrical boxes, working with stabilized earth mixes, and examining compressed earth block production equipment.
